The high-powered Congress Core Group met on Friday

In its race to put in place a “framework” of laws ahead of the general election that will enable the government battle corruption, the high-powered Congress Core Group met here on Friday to discuss the floor strategy to get the remaining anti-graft bills through Parliament when it meets early next month to pass the Vote-on -Account.

The meeting came minutes after party vice-president Rahul Gandhi had a half an hour long one on one discussion with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the latter’s 7, Race Course residence.

The two other subjects taken up at the meeting, party sources said, were the question of Jaat reservation — something the UPA hopes to approve before notification for the Lok Sabha polls — and what stand the government should take in court in the coal blocks allocation case, given its enormous political implications.
