After training its guns on the Modi government for failing to deliver on its election promise to get back black money stashed away abroad in 100 days, the Congress on Monday will release a booklet, ‘U Turn Sarkar’, to drive home the point that the current dispensation has gone back on several commitments made in its journey to power.
That the booklet would be released on Monday was announced by Congress communications in-charge Ajay Maken through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s preferred medium of communication — Twitter. The Congress has played on the BJP’s election catch-phrase — “abki baar, Modi sarkar” — to coin “6 Maheene Paar, U Turn Sarkar” (six months later, it’s a U turn government) for this attack on the current dispensation.
Meanwhile, in a related statement, former Union Minister Anand Sharma questioned the government claiming credit for the 5.7 per cent growth in GDP over the first quarter of this fiscal when 56 of those 99 days were under the Congress-led UPA’s watch.
He described Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s claims on turning the economy around and ensuring more capital inflows as “exaggerated and fallacious.” Stating that the BJP government inherited a healthy economy with both fiscal and current account deficit under control, Mr. Sharma charged that the government was not able to manage the economy despite a sharp fall in international crude oil prices.
