All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala on Saturday questioned the Centre over the details of its framework agreement with the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN-IM].

>Quoting an interview with NSCN (IM) leader Thuingaleng Muivah in The Hindu on Friday, Mr Surjewala said the government was treading into dangerous waters.

In the interview, Mr Muivah had said that his outfit had not given up on its demand for sovereignty and that a separate flag from that of the Indian Union, and the right to travel on a separate passport were legitimate demands.

“Has the Modi government promised sovereignty to Nagaland,” Mr Surjewala asked.

In the interview, Mr Muivah had said that his outfit had not given up on its demand for sovereignty and that a separate flag from that of the Indian Union, and the right to travel on a separate passport were legitimate demands.

“Has the Modi government promised sovereignty to Nagaland? Has it agreed to a separate flag for Nagaland apart from the Tricolour? Has the Modi government agreed on separate passports for Nagaland?” queried Mr Surjewala.

He said the political class and the people as a whole needed to be taken into confidence by the Union government on just what had been promised and the contours of the framework agreement announced last year. “Will the Modi government take into confidence the state governments of the region, all of whom will be affected by the agreement,” he said.

He said his party would raise the issue of sharing details of the agreement in Parliament as it pertained to the sovereignty of the country.
