In a major revamp of its communication wing ahead of the general elections, the Congress on Tuesday brought in Union Ministers Anand Sharma, Ghulam Nabi Azad, P. Chidambaram and Salman Khurshid, and party general secretary Mukul Wasnik as senior spokespersons.
A statement issued by party general secretary in-charge of communications, publicity and publications Ajay Maken in New Delhi on Tuesday said the names of the five new senior spokespersons as also 13 spokespersons have been cleared by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
The 13 spokespersons include some new names like Union Ministers Shashi Tharoor and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mahila Congress president Shobha Oza, advocate and former spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Haryana Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala, president of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Rita Bahuguna Joshi, party’s former media panelist Sanjay Jha, Rajya Sabha MP Satyavrat Chaturvedi and former Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Shakti Sinh Gohil.
There are four spokespersons who have been retained by the party. They are P.C. Chacko, Raj Babbar, Sandeep Dikshit and Shakeel Ahmad.
The party has also announced the names of 24 persons as “media panelists” and another 30 as “panelists on national media on State issues”.
