As part of its 125th year celebrations, the Congress has decided to hold special conferences in five zones in the coming months.
This was decided at a meeting of the Pradesh Congress Committee chiefs and the All India Congress Committee general secretaries here on Sunday.
The party has divided the country into five zones — North, East, West, South and North-East, with each zone deciding to hold zonal conferences here which will be attended by the State Congress chiefs, Congress Legislative Party leaders, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Councils and representatives from the district units and frontal organisations.
“The core issue will be the past foundation and future vision,” Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi told journalists after the meeting. He said the venue of each of the proposed conferences would be decided later by party chief Sonia Gandhi.
Coordination committees have been set up for each zone to chalk out detailed programmes. The year-long celebrations will culminate in a plenary session in December, when the party completes 125 years.
