In a bid to embarrass their own party, six Congress MPs from Seemandhra, opposed to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, on Monday sought Speaker Meira Kumar’s permission to move a no-confidence motion against the government in the Lok Sabha.
Four MPs from the Telugu Desam Party and three from the YSR Congress have also separately written to the Speaker seeking her nod for moving no-trust motion under Rule 198 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business. The MPs are believed to be talking to other parties in a bid to secure their support for the motion. So far no party has given a commitment.
The MPs’ move came even as the UPA government sent the Bill for creation of a separate State of Telangana to the President’s office. President Pranab Mukherjee will refer the Bill to the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly for its views.
The Congress leadership is taken aback by the move of its own MPs to move a no-trust motion. Party spokesman P.C. Chacko expressed his displeasure over the move of the party MPs.
