Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh, who hit the headlines after seeking a probe into the land deals of Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, joined the BJP on Thursday.

Addressing a gathering, BJP president Rajnath Singh welcomed Mr. Rao Inderjit and his supporters from Haryana into the party.

Mr. Rao Inderjit, who enjoys a clean image and hails from a martyr’s family, is now part of his organisation, Mr. Rajnath Singh said.

Mr. Rao Inderjit's great-grandfather Rao Tula Ram was a freedom fighter during the 1857 revolt, while his father Rao Birender Singh was Chief Minister of Haryana. He said he would now be part of the BJP for the rest of his life.

It was not an easy decision to quit the Congress after serving it for 36 years, he said.

He also announced the merger of his party, Haryana Insaf Congress with the BJP.
