Congress may head PAC

AIADMK may get Deputy Speaker post

July 14, 2014 02:43 am | Updated 02:43 am IST - NEW DELHI

One week into the budget session, it appears almost certain that the government will give the chairmanship of the prestigious Public Accounts Committee to the Congress though it remains ambivalent about granting the principal opposition party the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Going by the numbers, the Congress is likely to get the position of chairpersons of three committees and the Bharatiya Janata Party is tipped to bag 19. The committees may be announced this week. The post of Deputy Speaker is likely to go to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with 37 members, the second largest Opposition party, and its senior member M. Thambidurai is the frontrunner.
