Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav distributed laptops to 8,074 students and announced schemes worth a whopping Rs. 3,750 crore for Ghaziabad even as Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party workers were lathicharged by the police for staging a protest on Monday. The Chief Minister’s programme was held at the Kamla Nehru Nagar ground in Ghaziabad.
Addressing the function, Mr. Yadav said his government was committed to balanced development of rural and urban areas. Industries would be given a fillip and steps had been taken for improving the power scenario.
A total of 5,598 students from Ghaziabad district and 2,476 from Gautam Buddha Nagar district (Noida) got the laptops.
The Chief Minister announced that a bridge would be constructed over the Yamuna between Baghpat and Panipat to link Uttar Pradesh with Haryana. About 150 Congress workers were lathicharged when they resorted to a road jam in Kavinagar near Hapur octroi post (“chungi”) in Ghaziabad, said IG (Law and Order) R.K. Vishwakarma.
The workers were demanding a CBI probe into the murder of seven members of a builder’s family in Ghaziabad recently.
