In a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on the eve of its third anniversary in office, senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma on Thursday said, “We dare the Prime Minister to make public the details of people to whom his government gave jobs during the three years of BJP rule at the Centre. The PM had promised two crore jobs per year but last year, only 1.5 lakh got jobs. Let the government say who got the jobs, and what their addresses are.”
Ridiculing the state of the Indian economy, he continued, “As far as the economy is concerned, the investment rate, bank saving rate and non-agricultural bank credit off-take have all plummeted in the past three years.”
Mr. Sharma was equally scathing about the manner in which the BJP government at the Centre had converted the marking of three years in office into an occasion to promote the Prime Minister: “Close to ₹ 1,500 crore of government money is being spent on the propaganda blitz called Modifest. In addition, PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) and BJP-ruled States are also spending money to build a personality cult around Mr. Modi.”
