Taking a dig at the Congress brass, Bharatiya Janata Party patriarch L.K. Advani on Tuesday said Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must be thanked for ensuring that the BJP returns to power in 2014. Writing in his blog, Mr. Advani said: “I have participated in all General Elections held in independent India since 1952. In none of the fifteen Elections held till today, the Congress Party’s defeat seemed as certain as it does this time, I have been telling party colleagues [sic].”

Accusing the Congress leadership of presiding over a government whose hallmarks have been scams and corruption, he said: “Following carefully the performance of the Sonia-

Manmohan Singh government since 2004, I have been telling colleagues that we should be grateful to the UPA duo for working systematically and steadfastly to ensure that in 2014, once again a BJP-led government comes into power.” He also recalled the NDA government's tenure under the prime ministership of Atal Behari Vajpayee and said the former prime minister was the “most outstanding of all” with “no trace of ego or arrogance.”
