Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday demanded that the Centre make public the names of all those who kept unaccounted money in foreign banks.
“The Prime Minister should make public the names of all those who had kept their black money in Swiss bank. Otherwise, the people of the country will think the government is trying to hide the names as the face of their people will be blackened,” he told a press conference here.
“We will take action if anyone from our party is found having a deposit of illegal money in Swiss bank,” Mr. Gadkari said responding to a query.
“Affidavit unfortunate”
About the Centre's affidavit in the Supreme Court defending the appointment of P.J. Thomas as Central Vigilance Commissioner Mr. Gadkari said it was “unfortunate.”
Pointing out that Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj opposed Mr. Thomas' appointment, Mr. Gadkari said her dissent should have been taken into account. For, the appointment of the CVC was a sensitive matter.
About the Environment Ministry order that the Adarsh Housing Society building in Mumbai be demolished for violation of laws, Mr. Gadkari endorsed the decision, saying appropriate action should be taken as per law. However, he said, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh should try to strike a balance between environment and development.
Rehabilitation
On the people's opposition to displacement due to industrial projects, Mr. Gadkari said project-affected people should be given equities in the industries for which their land was acquired. Work on industrial projects should commence only after those facing displacement were rehabilitated with all facilities.
