A college principal, held on charge of molesting a schoolgirl in Khowai district, was remanded in judicial custody for five days on Sunday.

Police detained Pradip Kumar Dey, in-charge Principal of Teliamura Government Degree College, on Saturday on a complaint by his house owner.

His daughter, a Class XII student, alleged that the accused called her into his room and forced the girl to watch obscene images on a laptop before molesting her.

However, the girl raised an alarm and people in the neighbourhood rushed to her rescue.

They roughed him up before the police arrived on the scene. He was produced in a Khowai court, which sent him to judicial custody.

On December 27, a senior lecturer of the Government College at Kailasahar in Unakoti district was arrested after a student accused him of molestation. Tapash Kumar Ghosh is now in 14-day judicial custody.
