The auction of 15 blocks has resulted in a gain of Rs. 1,33,513 crore

February 23, 2015 12:15 am | Updated 12:15 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The BJP said on Sunday that the auction of coal blocks till date has established that the previous UPA government’s allocation policy could have caused huge loss to the public exchequer.

The Supreme Court had cancelled 204 allocations made by the UPA between 2004 and 2011, paving the way for fresh auction. The auction of 15 coal blocks so far has resulted in a gain of Rs. 1,33,513 crore, according to Shrikant Sharma, BJP national secretary.

“The positive results of the steps taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government for good governance and development are becoming visible,” Mr. Sharma said. According to him, less developed and mineral-rich Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have benefitted the maximum from the new government’s policy.

The blocks auctioned till now would help Odisha by Rs. 607 crore, Madhya Pradesh by Rs. 39,900 crore, West Bengal by Rs.13,210 crore, Maharashtra by Rs. 1,819 crore, Jharkhand by Rs. 14,498 crore and Chhattisgarh by Rs 26,425 crore, Mr. Sharma said.
