Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati has demanded imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh, citing poor law and order and rising crimes. Her plea comes in the wake of the alleged rape and murder of a girl in Noida over the weekend.
Talking to reporters here, Ms. Mayawati slammed the Noida police for not registering an FIR and trying to close the case by attempting to perform the funeral rites at night. She alleged that the State government was trying to shield the accused.
Ms. Mayawati said she had asked Governor B.L. Joshi to take note of the law and order and crime situation, and urged him to recommend President’s rule. Crimes had gone up with the Samajwadi Party regime doing nothing to check the growing incidents against women, she said.
