Chinese Defence Minister General Liang Guanglie will head a 23-member delegation including high ranking members of the Chinese defence and military establishment during his four day official visit to India, beginning September 2.
After a gap
It will be the first visit by any Chinese Defence Minister to India in the past seven years.
During his visit, General Liang will meet Defence Minister A. K. Antony and hold discussions on strengthening defence ties between the two neighbours.
Border security
Detailed talks are scheduled to be held between the two sides, during which a number of matters relating to defence and security will be raised, according to an official statement here on Tuesday.
Enhancement of measures for maintenance of peace and tranquillity along the borders and facilitation of confidence-building measures between the armed forces of both the countries are expected to be discussed.
Defence cooperation
The two sides will also discuss measures to promote defence cooperation between their armed forces.
The visit of the Chinese Defence Minister is part of the reciprocal exchanges of Defence-Minister-level visits between the two countries.
A Defence Minister level visit to China had last taken place in May 2006.
General Liang’s visit will be the first by a Chinese Defence Minister to India since March 2004.
