China has signalled that it would not object to Japanese involvement in specific border road projects in India — its position coming within days of an ice-breaking meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Asked to comment on reports that India had signed a contract with the Japan International Corporation Agency to build 2,000 km of road along the China-India border, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said: “China has noted such reports and checked with the authorities. The Japanese side has clarified that its cooperation with India is not in the disputed area.”
