The Indian government’s request for extradition of French national Mathieu Nicolas Furic, booked for molesting children in Puri, has been rejected by a Namibian court.
Furic was charged with molesting minor boys in Puri but managed to give police the slip. He was arrested in Namibia recently when the Interpol’s Red Corner alert was identified against his name as he was trying to take a plane out. The Indian government appealed for his extradition from Namibia, but Furic contested it on the grounds that the Indian documents were not in order.
In their order delivered last week, the judges of the Namibian court held up his appeal and agreed that “a lot of the documents on which the prosecution had based their argument in favour of extradition, did not comply with the applicable regulations,” according to Allgemeine Zeitung , a Namibian newspaper.
This is the second time in a short while that the Indian government has failed to secure extradition of foreign nationals charged with committing sex offences against children in India.
