Child artist's mother held for beating up minor housemaid

The mother of a child artist has been arrested for allegedly physically abusing her minor housemaid in suburban Andheri, police said on Saturday.

Urvarshi Danorkar (32) had beaten up the 10-year-old domestic help causing injuries to her eye, alleging she was stealing food and not working properly, Amboli police station senior Inspector K Ghanmande said.

The maid, brought here by the Danorkar family from Amravati, Eastern Maharashtra, complained to the police late on Friday night following which the woman was arrested from her residence in Raheja Classic building in Amboli, he said.

Urvarshi Danorkar has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act.
