Chidambaram inspects CWG village

Home Minister P. Chidambaram today inspected the Commonwealth Games village to take stock of the preparedness and security arrangements made for over 6,000 national and international athletes here to participate in the 12-day long sporting extravaganza beginning on Sunday.

Mr. Chidambaram, dressed in T-shirt and trousers and sporting a cap, took a round of the international zone, which houses different recreational facilities such as cafeterias, massage parlour, bar and discotheques.

The Home Minister was accompanied by Village Mayor Dalbir Singh and other officials of the Organising Committee.

According to OC officials, Mr. Chidambaram also visited residential complexes and saw practice and dining facilities inside the Games Village spread in 63.5 hectares area.

He also spoke to senior police officials’ in-charge of security of the Village, they said.
