After Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar resigned following allegations of irregularities in the irrigation sector, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday claimed that the chief engineer, who demanded an inquiry into various scandals, was mentally unbalanced.
Vijay Pandhare, chief engineer, Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (MERI), Nashik, had first written a letter on February 20, 2012, to the Chief Minister, listing various scandals in the irrigation department, and alleging losses to the tune of Rs. 40,000-50, 000 crore. He referred to the unholy nexus among contractors, officials, and politicians, which was resulting in the losses, and demanded an investigation by a transparent, independent, technical committee. The government asked Pandhare to expand his handwritten 15-page letter, after which he sent another list of allegations to the government in May.

who so ever raise voice against corruption, obviously in India he/she
has imbalanced mind, mind blowing.
If our courts mete out justice fair and fast, there will be no need for anyone to bribe any official, who in turn will have no reason to kow-tow politicians. That will mostly reduce corruption and enable our country to progress. But unfortunately it is the judiciary that needs to be corrected first. After Justice Ganguly left, the world's greatest scam, the 2G, has been consigned to the dust-bins. It seems India is heading towards a bloody revolution o the French style. If (God forbid) it does happen, the casualities will be higher than that of world war II, mostly those of Government servants and politicians.
this is why we need whistle blower protection law and this is why politicians like ajit pawar wont let it come into existance
Those who drafted Whistle Bolwer Protection Act are the main culprit to violate the law... I hope some one would take account of this witch hunt...
Same allegations were raised aagainst Abraham - SEBI Director , when he blew the lid on the SAHARA case and wrote to the PM citing intervention by the then Finance Ministry in the SEBIs independence . The SAHARA case has been later upheld by Supreme Court , the FM became President and Abraham was denied a much due extension in services . The 'system' in India will do everything to ensure the truth remains hidden and such whistle blowers are either exterminated or declared insane .
this is yet another proof of how important is the Whistle Blower Act for India for reducing such large scale govt. fund embezzlement corruption to some extent...
I am a civil engineering graduate & I would like to join Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (MERI), Nashik where there are MEN WITH SOME SPINE.
Ok, so he's mentally unbalanced (let's accept that for a second). Does that preclude the need for an independent investigative committee? I think not. Let's have the committee please and stop this nit-picking
It is just fooling of all the public by the politicians and each of the politician is concerned to exploit the public for their own wealth no one is concerned for the public affaiar. It is height of shame to read the advertisement from the anticorruption cell that please convey us the name of the personnel asking bribe while it is day to day routine for the public to pay bribe to every government office to get work done else the work is locked up in policies and laws but if the cost is paid it immediately comes out .Hence it is timew either the public who knows how much and to what extent the drama of the politicians is true but non action in the time of voting going on picnic is the fact and then no use on crying on spilt milk or the corruptions or the scandals .
Only by legislating protection for anonymous whistleblowing, can this problem be addressed. Nobody bothers to protect the whistleblowers identity.
Once the whistleblower is identified, several attacks are mounted on him or her. Threats, abuse and psychological torture and defamation are usual ploys. Police and civil courts are also used as part of the harassment. One easy way to get people arrested and their computers confiscated. These days complaints are usually sent by e-mail so immediately the IT Act comes in handy for arrest. Cyber Cell is always in readiness to carry out arrests for so-called "investigation purposes; based on a complaint. They will not look into the scam allegations because they don't have to, it is not their business!
The most vile thing about our whistleblowing 'laws' is this: It requires the whistleblower to immediately come out in the open and reveal his identity to superiors. That is where real harassment starts !
That's how honesty is rewarded in India.. Corrupt enjoying even after cases against them and honest are in jail for framed up reasons. Save these people if we want to save country
