Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said on Saturday that the Centre's efforts to deal with Maoists were in the right direction.
He told journalists after inaugurating the construction of the Chettuva fishing harbour here that Maoists should be dealt with firmly as they were against the country's development.
“The steps taken by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in this direction are proper. When I was Maharashtra Chief Minister, two districts in Maharashtra had Maoist problems. I dealt with it firmly. I also took steps for large-scale development of the regions,” he added.
Mr. Pawar said there would be a glut in the Indian sugar market next year. “And sugar prices will further come down.”
