The Home Ministry said on Wednesday that it had received a report from Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash .
“The report from Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal is under examination. Criminal aspects of the case are being taken care of by the Delhi Police, while the Home Ministry is looking into administrative issues like misbehaviour with a government servant,” a spokesperson for the Ministry said.
No crisis
The official said the Centre was also looking into the working relations between bureaucrats and the political executive of the Delhi government.
“Whatever legal action has to be taken will be initiated by the Delhi Police ... we are watching the situation.”
Referring to the statement of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the official said, “Justice will be done”. Without divulging the contents of the report, the official said one of the accused MLA had been arrested, while another had surrendered to the police.
The IPC sections invoked had a maximum punishment of two years in jail and it did not portend an immediate “constitutional crisis”.
Dismissal of govt.
On reports that the Centre may recommend dismissal of the Aam Aadmi Party-led government, the official said it was difficult at this juncture to come to that conclusion. “Dismissal of an elected government can only be done if there is a breakdown of law and order, leading to a constitutional crisis.”
On Tuesday, a delegation of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Delhi Andaman & Nicobar Islands Civil Service (DANICS) and subordinate services of the Delhi government had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who later said civil servants should be allowed to work with dignity and without fear.
