Centre, State announce relief for kin

The Railway Ministry has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the kin to those killed in the Kalka Mail accident at Malwan on Sunday. Those who sustained serious injuries will receive Rs. 1 lakh and those with minor injuries Rs. 25,000.

PM expresses shock

The Prime Minister, who now holds charge of the Railway Ministry, has expressed deep sorrow and shock over the loss of lives, a statement from his office said.

Dr. Singh has spoken to Minister of State for Railways Mukul Roy and Chairman of the Railway Board and instructed that all available resources in the area be deployed for rescue and relief.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has condoled the loss of lives and announced a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh each to the kin of those killed, according to PTI. She has also promised Rs. 50,000 to the seriously injured and Rs. 25,000 to those with minor injuries.
