Centre should strengthen political process in Kashmir: BJP

August 21, 2010 07:16 pm | Updated November 05, 2016 07:37 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Union government should make efforts to strengthen political process in Jammu and Kashmir instead of satisfying the needs of terrorists, P. Muralidhar Rao, national secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party, said on Saturday.

Mr Rao told reporters that the Centre should make the J&K government more accountable. The State government too should become more transparent so that no further alienation was created.

To a question on the party's present position on the issue of repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution, he replied that as the gravity of the Article had come down, the party too had become less vocal. He however hastened to add that the party had not diluted its position. “Full integration would only solve the problem of J&K.”

He demanded that while seeking to find a lasting solution to the J&K problem, the Centre took into confidence parties and people of all regions including Jammu and Ladakh.

He blamed the United Progressive Alliance government for frittering away the gains made during the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance regime and argued that any proposal to provide greater autonomy would only make separatists take a more aggressive line.
