Centre processing low carbon report

September 17, 2014 02:50 am | Updated 02:50 am IST - NEW DELHI:

While the government seems keen on rushing through clearances and diluting environmental laws, indications are that it is equally keen on pursuing a path of low carbon growth. B.N. Satpathy, Senior Adviser, Planning Commission, said that while there was concern over slowdown of infrastructure projects, the 12th Plan did focus on low carbon growth strategies and it was being adhered to. The government was also processing the final report of the expert group on low carbon strategies for inclusive growth, submitted in April 2014.

Dr. Satpathy said the National Steering Committee on Climate Change had so far approved nine State action plans. However, resources and technology would be constraints in pursuing a low carbon growth path.
