Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday said the Centre would extend all possible assistance to the Chhattisgarh government in its fight against naxalism.
“The Centre is committed to fighting naxalism. We will provide all possible help to the State government in its efforts to eradicate the left-wing extremists,” he told journalists here.
The Home Minister hailed the State government’s efforts to fight Maoists and said all steps have been taken to provide succour to the kin of the men killed in the fight against naxalism.
Earlier on Friday, Mr. Chidambaram called on Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan and met Chief Minister Raman Singh to discuss the anti-naxalite campaign and other security-related issues.
The State government has upped its offensive against the outlaws. Seven of them were killed in a joint operation with the CRPF in Dantewada district recently.
Mr. Chidambaram also paid tribute to security personnel killed in encounters with the naxals.
