Centre ignoring farmers’ interests: Nitish

Modi is more concerned about corporates than farmers, says Bihar Chief Minister

May 31, 2015 03:29 am | Updated 03:29 am IST - Patna:

On a day when the Union Cabinet cleared the contentious Land Acquisition ordinance for the third time, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said the Modi government has made it a “prestige issue” while ignoring farmers’ interest.

“The BJP has made the Land acquisition ordinance a prestige issue and the Modi government has been trying to impose this controversial Bill on farmers through the ordinance route which will eventually prove costly”, Mr. Kumar said.

Mr. Kumar said that for the Prime Minister the interest of the farmers was not an issue but “what matters for him most has been the interest of the corporate.”

“However, this Bill is being opposed across the country by all the opposition parties and the people. Such opposition has never been seen before,” he told journalists.

Asked about the action on a student’s body in IIT Madras, Mr. Kumar said it was attack on democracy.

“The ban is a direct attack on the fundamental rights of the people. It’s unacceptable and it also shows the Fascist tendency of the central government”, he said.
