Centre has no intentions to run Delhi through L-G: Rajnath Singh

Responding to the allegations of the Kejriwal government, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the Central government has no intentions to run Delhi through the Lieutenant Governor.

“We do not have any objections to the working of the Delhi government. However, it is important to uphold the Constitutional provisions,” said Mr. Singh at a press conference.

The Ministry had on Wednesday gone to the Supreme Court against the observations of the Delhi High Court terming “suspect” its May 21 notification on extending powers of the Lieutenant-Governor.

On Friday, the Supreme Court sought Delhi government’s response in three weeks on the Centre’s plea seeking stay on the High Court judgement which termed as suspect the notification clipping powers of the AAP dispensation.

Stepping up the battle against the Centre, the Delhi Assembly had on Thursday described the notification as a dangerous precedent arming the Lieutenant-Governor with absolute powers over a popularly elected State government.
