The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Friday that the Class XII results (Senior School Certificate Examination) for 2017 for all CBSE regions would be declared on May 28 in the forenoon.

The results will be posted online with the technical support of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), and students can access them at www.results.nic.in, www.cbseresults.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in.

The CBSE requested students and parents not to visit the Board office for collection of results as they would only be available online.

The CBSE on May 24 had sought legal opinion on whether it should challenge the verdict of the Delhi High Court on the marks moderation policy. To avoid a delay in the declaration of the results, the Board decided not to approach the Supreme Court.

Although there is no official statement, sources at CBSE said that the Board would follow the moderation policy as directed by the Delhi High Court. The Court had ordered the continuation of the moderation policy that the Board has been following, saying it was unfair to students who had registered for the exam when the policy was still in place.

In a meeting held in April that was attended by officials from the CBSE and other State Education Boards, it was decided that the boards across the country would not use the 'marks moderation' policy in deciding the marks of class XII board students.

Hearing a PIL by a parent and an advocate challenging the Board's decision to withdraw the moderation policy, the Delhi High Court termed the CBSE's decision to scrap its 'moderation policy' as "unfair and irresponsible".
