Nearly a week after CBI took over investigations into the Shopian rape and double murder case,bodies of the victims -Asiya (17) and her sister-in-law Neelofar (22) are likely to be exhumed on Sunday after their family members gave consent for it to the probe agency.

The two were raped and killed in Shopian during the intervening night of May 29-30.

Shakeel Ahmad Ahangar, brother of Asiya and husband of Neelofar, and Neelofar’s father Abdul Hai gave consent for exhumation of the bodies in the court of Shopian Judicial Magistrate Malik Shabir Ahmad on Thursday.

The CBI sources said that the bodies would be exhumed on Sunday after obtaining a formal order from the district court.

CBI, which took over the case from the State’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) recently, approached Shopian District and Sessions Judge Syed Tauqeer Ahmad for recording of the statements of the victm’s relatives on the consent issue.

The Judge referred the case to the court of Judicial Magistrate Malik Shabir Ahmad.

During the recording of the statements, the Judge asked Shakeel and Abdul Hai whether they were ready for giving the consent for the exhumation of the bodies. Both of them gave the consent.

Later, CBI officials took the copies of the statements with them and are likely to approach the district magistrate Abdul Majid Khanday for obtaining a formal order in this regard.
