Party misusing the investigation agency against SP, BSP, RJD

If the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is allowed to function independently, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre will collapse in one day, the Bharatiya Janata Party said on Saturday.

Party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Prakash Javadekar told journalists here: “The CBI is the most trusted ally of the Congress. Today the UPA government is in minority. Its total strength including that of its allies is only 230. But this government will not collapse even if the Samajwadi Party (SP) withdraws its outside support. Because, the CBI is the most trusted ally of this government.”

Mr. Javadekar accused the Congress of misusing the CBI against the SP, the BSP, the RJD and Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy “to stay in power.”

Reacting to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s assertion about the UPA government completing its full term, Mr. Javadekar said: “The PM can say this with confidence because of the CBI. Make the CBI an independent and autonomous body and this government will not survive for a single day.”

“The UPA government has committed many sins and its time is over now. This government is involved in almost all types of scams and scandals. There was corruption even in the 37 mineral blocks allotted inside the sea.”

He said farmers and workers were the most affected by the ‘wrongdoings’ of the UPA government. “The Finance Minister claimed that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the different agriculture products has increased manifold. But he forgot to mention the increase in the production cost. The MSP of paddy in 2010 was Rs.1,000 and the production cost was Rs. 742 per quintal. Now the MSP of paddy is 1,280 and production cost is Rs. 1,152 per quintal. This is due to the increase in the prices of inputs.”
