The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore to rope in experts for restructuring operations, monitoring mechanisms and redefining performance appraisal system benchmarks.
The move is aimed at introducing healthy corporate practices to enhance the agency’s efficiency. Under the agreement, the experts would revisit the system of performance appraisal which is presently done on the basis of the outcome of cases being handled or supervised by officers at various levels.
The team of experts would examine whether positive changes can be brought into areas such as feasibility study on handling a preliminary enquiry and a regular case as a single unit of work. The agency also plans to introduce a management information system for better monitoring of cases handled by different its units.
Stating that objectives of the MoU are wide in scope and broad in range, CBI Director Ranjit Sinha said the areas to be covered included, human resource management and performance management. While the organisational changes envisaged under the MoU would be brought about in due course, the CBI plans to set up a Centre of Excellence through strategic partnerships with leading institutions in various fields like law, investigation, technology and forensic science.
