Two days after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) plea to revive criminal conspiracy charges against senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders L. K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, and Union Minister Uma Bharati, the CBI was accused by the Rajya Sabha MP from the party and one of those mentioned in this charge-sheet, Vinay Katiyar, of “running amok” by reviving the charges.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Katiyar said, “CBI is the one that has conspired. It is behaving like a tethered bull suddenly let loose, at least in our [National Democratic Alliance] government, it has become a bull running amok.”
On Thursday, Mr. Katiyar created a flutter, partly agreeing with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, who had said that the revival of criminal conspiracy charges against Mr. Advani was itself a conspiracy to make him ineligible to be the President of India, polls for which are due in July.
Mr. Katiyar had responded to Mr. Prasad’s contention with, “There may be some truth in it, I do not know.”
