The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recorded the statement of the former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, in relation to the Adarsh land scam, senior CBI officials said on Monday.

Two months ago

“We recorded his statement around two months ago,” a senior CBI official told The Hindu . Mr. Deshmukh has not been named as an accused in the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the CBI in the matter.

“We have recorded his statement as a witness,” an official said.

Mr. Deshmukh had sanctioned the proposal of the Adarsh society during his tenure as the Chief Minister. Though he hasn't been named in the FIR, some Public Interest Litigation pleas(PILs) have been filed in the Bombay High Court stating that the investigating agency should probe the role of former Chief Ministers, including Sushil Kumar Shinde.
