The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday questioned the sitting Rajya Sabha MP D. Bandopadhyay of the Trinamool Congress in connection with an LTC scam case, which accuses him of making full claims on heavily discounted Air India tickets under the Companion Scheme.

The agency has alleged that Mr. Bandopadhyay claimed a total refund of Rs.1.28 lakh for four companion tickets against an actual payment of Rs.2,000. “For bookings under the scheme, companion tickets are sold at a heavily discounted price. However, investigations revealed that the Rajya Sabha MP allegedly claimed full refunds for these tickets,” said a CBI official, confirming that Mr. Bandopadhyay had been quizzed.

Apart from Mr. Bandopadhyay, the CBI has registered similar cases against sitting Rajya Sabha MPs Lalhming Liana of the Mizo National Front and Brajesh Pathak of BSP; and former Rajya Sabha members J.P.N. Singh of BJP, Mahmood A. Madani of RLD and Renu Bala Pradhan of the Biju Janata Dal.
