The Central Bureau of Investigation has questioned a former personal secretary of Dayanidhi Maran in connection with spectrum allocations made during his tenure as Telecom Minister.

K. Sanjay Murthy, an IAS officer of the 1989 batch from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, was on Thursday quizzed on various decisions taken during Mr. Maran's tenure between 2004 and 2007, official sources said.

Mr. Murthy, now Secretary (Administrative Reforms) with the Himachal Pradesh government, was also questioned on the allegations of the former Aircel chief, C. Sivasankaran, that his company was not given licence, the process was deliberately delayed and he was forced by Mr. Maran to sell his stake to the Malaysia-based Maxis group, the sources said.

Statement before CBI

Mr. Sivasankaran had alleged in a statement before the agency that he was forced to sell his stake in Aircel by Mr. Maran and his brother, Kalanidhi Maran to Maxis, considered close to the Maran family.

Preliminary enquiry

The agency has registered a preliminary enquiry into sale of spectrum that took place during 2001-07 and is probing the allegations of irregularities and wrongdoings.

Mr. Sivasankaran's allegations have been refuted by Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, who recently quit as Union Textiles Minister.
