A senior Central Bureau of Investigation official supervising the probe into coal block allocation cases and an inspector have been arrested by the agency’s internal vigilance team for allegedly receiving Rs.7 lakh in bribe for getting a land dispute settled through his Delhi Police contacts. It is suspected that the deal was allegedly struck for Rs.15 lakh.
Superintendant of Police Vivek Dutt, who was a part of the probe teams investigating 11 coal block allocation cases registered since last September, and Inspector Rajesh were arrested near the CGO Complex close to the CBI headquarters on Friday. They were allegedly caught red-handed by the internal vigilance officials while receiving the cash from a private person
Days after the CBI cracked the cash-for-appointment scam allegedly involving former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew and his accomplices, it received a tip-off that its own officers were indulging in corrupt practices and had sought bribe from a person to get his job done. He had contacted the CBI officials to get a land dispute settled.
“It is alleged that the SP got the issue resolved for a consideration through his contacts in the Delhi Police, following which he along with the inspector was receiving the money when they were arrested. The vigilance wing had kept an eye on their activities following reports that they were involved in malpractices,” said a CBI official.
The officers would be interrogated to ascertain identities of the persons in the Delhi Police through whom they had got the land dispute resolved.
The businessman, who allegedly gave bribe to the CBI officers was also arrested along with another person.
