With Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala participating in election rallies in the run-up to the October 15 Assembly polls in Haryana, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday moved the Delhi High Court seeking immediate cancellation of his bail.

The agency has sought revocation of the bail, allowed on medical grounds to the 79-year-old former Haryana Chief Minister, as Mr. Chautala was allegedly violating bail conditions by being in the thick of election campaign.

It asked the Delhi High Court to constitute a Special Bench and immediately hear its application.

The High Court on September 26 given Mr. Chautala time till October 17 to surrender in the teachers’ recruitment scam case in which he has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The agency’s application comes a day after Mr. Chautala addressed a public meeting at Uchhana Kalan constituency.

A few days ago, a separate application was filed by Gurgaon-based advocate Hemant Sharma alleging that Mr. Chautala was misleading the High Court.

The application was filed on October 1 shortly after Mr. Chautala attended an election road show in Jind. It said the leader misused “the grace period of 17 days given to him to surrender to campaign extensively in the State of Haryana.”
