The CBI has filed a chargesheet against 14 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel who allegedly extorted money from passengers to allow them travel in general bogies of long distance trains leaving from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus railway station at suburban Chembur.
The 1,000-page chargesheet was filed at CBI special court here yesterday against 14 RPF personnel, including an Inspector and a Sub-Inspector, the officials of the probe agency said, adding 25 witnesses were examined.
?The accused had extorted money from passengers standing in queue to board the general bogie of trains originating from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus,? CBI DIG Pravin Salunkhe told PTI.
?The passengers were allowed to occupy the seats in general bogies only after paying them money,? he said.
According to CBI, on November 19 last year a trap was laid at the station when some constables collecting money from passengers to allow them sit in Gorakhpur-bound train were found. Subsequently they were held.
?During the probe, the roles of Inspector, Assistant Inspector and others emerged after which they were also arrested for misusing their official position by extorting money from the poor passengers,? he said.
