As the probe into the bribery allegation made by Army Chief General V.K. Singh gathers momentum, the CBI on Wednesday examined Lt.-Gen. (Retired) Tejinder Singh for the first time for his alleged role in the Tatra deal case.
Lt.-Gen. Singh was questioned at length, as the probe so far pointed to the role of some former Army officers in clearing the deal for the trucks, official sources said.
The sources said the former Army officer was also asked to reply to the allegations levelled against him by the Army Chief, who claimed in his statement that the former Lt.-General approached him in 2010 with a bribe offer of Rs. 14 crore to clear a tranche of 600 Tatra trucks.
The sources said the former Lt.-General was asked about the reasons for his visit to the Army Chief's office on September 22, 2010, when the alleged offer was made to Gen. V.K. Singh. Lt.-Gen. Tejinder Singh denied all these allegations and filed a contempt case against the Army Chief. The CBI recorded the Army Chief's statement on April 20, in which he had alleged that Lt.-Gen. Tejinder Singh had made the offer on behalf of Ravi Rishi of Tatra trucks, the sources said.
