A suspect in the Rs.10-crore railway bribery case, in which former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla is among those arrested, was remanded in CBI custody for two days by a special court on Monday.

Railway contractor Sushil Daga, who was arrested on Sunday, was produced before Special CBI Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma by the CBI, which said it needed him in custody to confront him with documents and intercepted telephone conversations.

The judge said, “Since accused [Daga] has been arrested yesterday [Sunday] itself, he needs to be confronted with documents and intercepted conversations...I remand the accused in CBI custody for two days.”

The CBI alleged that Daga had arranged part of the bribe amount that was paid to Singla to secure co-accused Mahesh Kumar’s posting as Member (Electrical) of the Railway Board.

It also claimed that Vivek Kumar, who allegedly carried the bribe amount to Chandigarh and was caught red-handed, was Daga’s employee.
