CBI court stays order in Ishrat Jahan case

It had told the agency to hand over a supplementary charge sheet naming IB officials to IPS officer Satish Verma.

A local Central Bureau of Investigation court on Thursday stayed its own order asking the agency to provide a copy of the charge sheet in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case to IPS officer Satish Verma, who had assisted the CBI probe.

Mr. Verma had approached the court, contending that he wanted to pursue the case legally since there was no progress in the case and even the court had not taken the cognisance of the supplementary charge sheet naming four IB officials — special director Rajinder Kumar and junior officers P. Mittal, M.K. Sinha and Rajiv Wankhede.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier refused to sanction their prosecution.

The CBI urged the court to allow it to approach the High Court challenging its order. Judge S.J. Raje allowed it, staying the order till April 26.
