The CBI special court is expected to decide today on Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy's private complaint seeking the summoning of Union Minister P. Chidambaram to face prosecution for allegedly colluding with the then Telecom Minister, A. Raja, in fixing the prices for 2G spectrum licence.
Dr. Swamy's allegations against the two UPA politicians are: acting in collusion to grant spectrum licences in 2008 at 2001 prices and failing to prevent Swan Telecom and Unitech Wireless from diluting their shareholdings in favour of the UAE-based Etisalat and the Norway-based Telenor respectively before the rollout of services, and failure on the part of Mr. Chidambaram to prevent the entry into India of Etisalat and Uninor, which were “blacklisted” by a Home Ministry advisory.
On January 21, Special Judge O. P. Saini reserved order on Dr. Swamy's application. That day he told the judge, “prima facie , Mr. Chidambaram had conspired and colluded with Mr. Raja to commit the offence of criminal misconduct.”
