The CBI on Monday filed a charge sheet against R.K. Dubey, then Chairman and Managing Director, of Canara Bank, and five other senior functionaries for allegedly cheating the bank of ₹68.38 crore in a conspiracy with the directors of the Delhi-based Occasion Silver Private Ltd.
Those named as accused are Mr. Dubey; the then Canara Bank Executive Directors Ashok Kumar Gupta and V.S. Krishna Kumar; Deputy General Manager Mukesh Mahajan; Chief General Manager T. Sreekanthan and Assistant General Manager Upendra Dubey.
The charge sheet has been filed in the case registered by the CBI in January 2016, alleging that the company and its directors cheated the bank by not repaying the loans sanctioned by its Kamla Nagar branch in Delhi.
The loans that were sanctioned in December 2013 turned non-performing assets in September 2014. It is alleged that the funds were siphoned off through a chain of alleged bogus transactions facilitated by fake sister concerns, family members and bank officials, including the top executives.
“The then bank’s CMD would allegedly send text messages to his subordinates to facilitate loans to the company,” said an official.
