CBI arrests accounts officer attached to Agriculture Ministry

The CBI has arrested a senior accounts officer with the Agriculture Ministry, Rajeev Kumar Gupta, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 55,000 from a government counsel for clearing her pending bills.

The CBI received a complaint from a senior panel counsel to the Central government in Punjab and Haryana High Court, alleging he was demanding bribe for clearing the pending bills.

“The accused, a resident of Faridabad, asked the advocate to pay the bribe at Punjab Bhawan in New Delhi. We arrested him when he was receiving the amount. Searches were conducted on his residential premises and documents pertaining to investments seized for scrutiny,” said a CBI official.
