Bahujan Samaj Party MP Dhananjay Singh has filed for divorce from his dentist wife Jagriti, who is charged with murdering their domestic help.

Mr. Singh and his wife are, at present, in police custody — Jagriti is charged with torturing one of her domestic helps to death and Mr. Singh faces charges of abetment to commit crime, destruction of evidence and employing a minor.

Defying court orders, issued a year ago, that she be put under medication for an undisclosed medical condition, Jagriti allegedly tore up the prescription and threatened to commit suicide if taken to the doctor again, alleges Mr. Singh in his divorce petition.

The MP has cited many other instances in his divorce petition, which is pending before a family court here, filed under the grounds of cruelty meted out to him.
