BSF today lodged a strong protest with Pakistan Rangers over facilitation of infiltration and cross-border firing by its troops in Ramgarh sub-sector in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

BSF held a company commander-level meeting with the Rangers at Ballard border outpost in Ramgarh, about 50 kms from here, officials of the paramilitary force said.

They lodged a protest about facilitating infiltration of armed militants from Pakistan side and cross-border firing on Ballard post yesterday.

The Rangers denied their involvement in the incident and blamed it on the militants.

Jawans of 59 battalion of BSF picked up movement of a large group of armed militants near Ballard forward post yesterday morning. The militants opened fire on the post following which BSF jawans and patrolling parties retaliated.

The exchange of fire continued intermittently for some time.

Later, militants managed to escape towards the Pakistani side, the officials said, adding the ultras were given cover firing by security forces on the other side.
