Brazilian hacker defaces many Indian websites

Brazilian hackers targeted several Indian government websites and defaced their home pages on Saturday.

Most of these defaced websites have been pulled off the servers and the links have been throwing “site not found” messages. The hacker with the handle ‘HighTech’ replaced the homepages with a video which appeared to be shot with a ‘vine’ application. The video shows a man dressed as joker standing on roadside, while a vehicle through which the video is shot, cruises past him.

It is not yet known, whether the entire data of the websites has been damaged or just the homepages vandalised. Of the 18 websites hacked, one is a defence website ( >cdarndbblr.gov.in ) belonging to the Controller of Deence Accounts (R&D) in Bangalore.

Inerestingly, the Bharat Earth Movers limited (BEML) site bemlindia.nic.in too came under attack along with its sister site ‘bemltech.nic.in’. BEML makes earthmoving and other heavy industrial equipment, for the mining and civil engineering industries and is a public sector undertaking of Government of India.’

The Doordarshan website in Bangalore ‘ >ddchandana.gov.in ’ was also among the defaced websites. The other defaced websites of commissioner of VAT, Dadra and Nagar Haveli ( >dnhctd.gov.in ), Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fisheries ( >cicef.gov.in ), National Assessment and Accreditation Council ( >naac.gov.in ), Apex Hitech Institute, Bangalore ( >apexhitech.gov.in ), Fiscal Policy Institute, Bangalore ( >fpibangalore.gov.in ), Department of Taxes, Manipur ( >manipurvat.gov.in ), Department of VAT, Daman and Diu ( >ddvat.gov.in ), Commissioner of VAR, Dadra and Nagar Haveli ( >dnhctd.gov.in ).

The other websites hacked included: ‘ >zotax.nic.in ’, ‘ >bangaloreurban.nic.in ’, ‘ >aruntax.gov.in ’, ‘ >kolar.nic.in ’, ‘ >tripurataxes.nic.in ’ and ‘ >agkar.cag.gov.in ’. The details of the departments operating these websites could not be found on the web. The defacements have been hosted on a website which maintains the database of defaced websites.
