Blaming the local administration for the death of a boy who could not be taken to a hospital due to security curbs during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit here, Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said on Sunday that he would submit a detailed report to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Singh on Monday.
“The incident happened due to the negligence of the local administration. No alternative route was kept open for emergency situations during the Prime Minister's visit,” he said, after meeting the parents of eight-year-old Aman.
The Minister said he would write to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident and action against guilty officials and compensation to the victim's family.
He also demanded that the State government take steps to ensure that such an incident did not recur.
Aman's family had alleged that security barricades set up on the roads during the Prime Minister's visit here on July 3 had prevented them from taking the boy, who had suffered serious head injuries after falling from a height at his house, to hospital in time to save him.
Mr. Jaiswal, MP from Kanpur, spent 15 minutes with Aman's parents and consoled them.
The boy's mother Usha Sharma had written to Ms. Gandhi requesting her to ensure that a similar tragedy did not repeat.
Ms. Sharma told Mr. Jaiswal that she wanted to meet the Prime Minister.
Mr. Jaiswal said he would look into it.
